How does housing and the economy work?

We’re a very small society, and most food is imported by the MTPs and freely available.

A lot of the economy is scavenger, in that people figure out somewhere in an MTP that they can take something useful without it impacting anything and annoying that MTP, and importing it. Sometimes that’s ‘theft’, sometime it’s just finding something useful that happened in nature.

There is free if cramped housing provided, or you can lease or rent an actual house or apartment, although there is currently a shortage, which has lasted for a decade at this point. Construction is fairly slow. Technically, no real estate ownership is allowed, but you can lease for long periods. You cannot sell, however. You just cancel the lease and get refunded for any unused time.
